Moral/Ethical Considerations
HOME
1. Diversity and representing different cultures:
VGOURDIN (2019) is a fashion illustrator showcasing their work on "Muses On Demand (MOD)…an inclusive networking platform". Prioritising diversity VGOURDIN (2019) believes "Children of colour need to see themselves represented" and luckily "more designers are becoming more inclusive" Within the fashion industry "Designers should understand their audiences are diverse. When they ignore that simple fact people call them out." (VGOURDIN, 2019). If designers are diverse this encourages and allows fashion illustrators to create inclusive work.

2. Environmental concerns and sustainability: In terms of fast fashion and environmental concerns Joanna Layla (2022) states "we can choose as fashion illustrators the media we use and change our practices to incorporate more sustainable choices." An example of this is "I recently worked on an amazing project with E.L.V. Denim and Edward Bulmer Paint to use their zero-waste techniques in my own practice." (Layla, 2022). Joanna Layla (2022) states that "fashion illustrators have a responsibility too to champion best practice where they can." The industry could embrace the talents of fashion illustrators as Joanna Layla (2022) explains "there is an opportunity for the industry to recognise illustrators as the more sustainable choice in image-making. In a studio, on their own, a fashion illustrator can conjure a whole world on paper. Without air- miles, crew, production carbon foot prints."

3. Sustainability, consideration for materials and collaborations: Montana Forbes (2022) considers the sustainability of materials: "As an image maker I’m conscious of the materials…pencils to sketch and Photoshop for colour addition. I’ve experimented with incorporating…fabric samples from vintage clothes and using recycled paper." Considering where you get your inspiration from and who you work with is important, Montana Forbes (2022) explains "I collaborate a lot with vintage store owners to highlight the cyclical nature".
